Ready-made sales plan template: How to prepare and implement the sales plan

Most people know a marketing plan, which is a document that describes how you intend to attract quality leads and convert them into customers. A sales plan differs from a marketing plan in that it provides a roadmap and procedural steps for achieving sales goals.

A sales plan is a document that describes your goals and outlines the strategies and tactics you will implement to achieve those goals.

You'll learn how to create your own sales plan with this guide (+ sales plan template ready to download):

1. Defining strategies to achieve target sales.

Every salesperson has a sales goal that they are expected to achieve. Creating a sales plan helps define the strategies and tactics that will be used to achieve and exceed the goal:

Start your plan by setting a sales goal—weekly, monthly, annually, or otherwise—and then outline several comprehensive strategies you'll use to achieve it.

Sales improvement strategies may include increasing awareness in the community for the product or brand, getting more referrals from existing customers, or adding weekly "cold calls" to potential customers.

2. Define your tactics to increase sales.

If the strategies you define are the lines and outlines, the tactics you describe are the specific actions you will take to achieve sales.

For example, if one of your strategies is to increase product awareness, your tactic might include attending several events or organizing at least once a month/quarterly.

If one approach is to boost your social media presence, you must provide specific details. For example, on average how many posts do you intend to post per day on social media?

3. Determine how you will remain relevant to existing customers.

For many salespeople, sticking with existing customers is as vital and essential as attracting new customers. Here again, you have to put together some of the main strategies that you will use, and then add some specific tactics that you will use.

One strategy, for example, is to increase your chances of interacting and communicating at least monthly with each of your existing customers.

If so, your tactics might include, for example, calling once a month with a relevant idea or advice, or setting up an interactive newsletter.

4. Determine how you will increase the sales of your existing customers.

Obviously, you want to keep your current sales with at least existing customers. But the best is to succeed in increasing your sales volume with existing customers first. Of course, this should be combined with a strategy of expanding your customer base.

In fact, your strategies can be listed here as “increasing sales within my existing customer base” and “identifying new customers through my existing customer base.”

Your tactic here may include including promotional materials with each delivery of goods or services.

5. The stage of preparing the sales plan.

Sales plans should generally be short and short of sales business plans. One page is perfect. It is recommended to use clear and concise headings.

Simple and straightforward is the key. If you want something, it can be checked by your boss or someone else who wants to research and understand quickly. Think of it as something you can (and probably actually want to) post on your bulletin board.

Simple and straightforward plans are easy to review as circumstances and circumstances change. You should review and review your individual sales plan regularly.

Consider the following example of four possible titles for an abbreviated sales plan. Each section includes three to five strategic or tactical examples:

1. Strategies to attract new customers

2. Tactics to attract new customers

3. Existing customer retention strategies

4. Existing customer retention methods
